Greetings!
Hello!
How is your week? Do you remember the 5 languages of Love? Words of affirmation, receiving gifts, physical touch, quality time, and acts of service. Remember to show someone you love them in the language they speak. Debbie is definitely an acts of service person, doing things around the house is worth more than gifts, well most gifts. I challenge you to show the love to someone in your life this week.
The February edition of the Illinois Link now available, click on Illinois State Ministries website below to view.
Don't forget, Fresh Start is having a time of exercise on Thursday this week at 6.30 pm. Come and be refreshed!
See you Sunday!

Monday Memo
CHOOSING YOUR WAY PSALM 43:5
Victor Frankl wrote, "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
Think of all the things you can't control: the economy, your health, your income, the choices that your kids make, the decisions that your boss makes...You may have some influence over these things, but not complete control.
But there is one thing you can control: How you respond to every situation. You can respond with anger, doubt, and self-pity ... or with faith, hope, and love. It's your choice. Again and again in the Psalms we encounter David in difficult situations -- surrounded by enemies, struggling with sin, sinking in despair -- and again and again we see his absolute resolve to think right:
Why are you so downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 43:5) You can't control what happens today, but you can control your actions. Don't let any situation get the best of you. No matter what you face, you can choose your own way.

$234,600 Raised for Haitian Relief Operations Second Assessment Team Formed
Individuals and congregations from across the movement continue to respond to the critical need for funds to support the disaster relief and recovery operations in Haiti. Thus far, $234,600 has been donated to the disaster relief fund. The true scope of the devastation for those associated with the Church of God in Haiti has yet to be learned, but a second assessment team is scheduled to go to the country in mid-February and will deliver additional funds to support the relief and recovery effort.
All donations received as a result of the appeal for disaster relief in Haiti will be devoted to the relief effort. The initial disbursement of funds ($10,000) delivered in January was divided equally between John Ackerman, our career missionary in Haiti, and the national leader of the Church of God in Haiti, Phyllis Newby. Both were given the discretion to use the funds to meet the immediate needs within their ministry areas.
The Church of God Ministries (CGM) Disaster Relief Committee has arranged for a second assessment team to travel to Haiti February 13. This team will be led by Don Smith, coordinator for compassionate ministries at CGM, and Phil Murphy, former missionary to Haiti. The team will also include an architect with extensive experience in developing plans in third-world countries, along with two other key individuals. In cooperation with Newby and Ackerman, the team will conduct a more detailed assessment of the overall situation and travel to the southern part of the country to assess the damage to Church of God congregations in the area hit hardest by the earthquake. Upon the team's return, the Disaster Relief Committee will finalize a strategic response plan that likely will include calling for work teams.
CGM anticipates that hundreds of thousands of dollars will be needed to purchase medical supplies, food, water, fuel, and the materials needed to rebuild homes, churches, schools, and medical clinics. Immediate donations to the Disaster Relief Fund can be made online at www.chog.org/DisasterRelief. Checks can be mailed to Church of God Ministries, PO Box 2420, Anderson, IN 46018-2420. Please write Project 45.04502 in the memo line. |
